![]() | Rose is a chestnut New Forest mare. She is 8 years old and is owned by Emily Escott, who uses her mainly for hacking. She is 14.0 h.h. and she lives out all year round with her “boy friend”, a Welsh pony called Peter who belongs to Emily’s sister. Emily says Rose is 90% laid back and 10% excitable – the “chestnut mare syndrome”! Her favourite foods are bread, carrots, apples, mints and pony treats. |
![]() | Christopher has been owned by Helen Waters since 1998 and she says “he is a very special pony and he knows it!” He is a 13.0 h.h. bay gelding who lives out all year round. He is 26 years old and is now only used for hacking when not doing RDA work but, in his younger days, he took part in one day events, working hunter pony and Pony Club mounted games. He is laid back, fun loving and very calm. |
![]() | Heineken has been owned by Hope in the Valley since 2000 and is kept at Lesley Morrill’s yard. He is a 15 year old grey Highland gelding and is 13.3 h.h. He lives in at night and out during the day. Other than his RDA work, he is used for hacking. Lesley says his favourite food is “anything” and she describes him as cheeky and naughty – “a bit of a lager lout”!! |
![]() | Sonny is on permanent loan to Hope in the Valley and has lived with Carol McLean since 2002. He is 31 years old and, in his younger days, enjoyed hunting, Pony Club activities and hacking. He is a grey Welsh pony, who stands 12.3h.h. He lives out day and night in the summer but comes in at night during the winter. He loves carrots and any food that does not belong to him. Carol says he is cheeky – he likes to open gates, knock over full wheel barrows, chase hens and sheep, and trespass wherever he can (into feed bins or other ponies’ clean stables, where he will roll and roll and then leave)! |
![]() | Widgit is a bay Cob-cross mare. She is about 9 years old and stands 13.2 h.h. She has been owned by Ditchling Common Stud since 2002, where she is used in the riding school and where she lives out all year round. She is laid back and a bit lazy. The Stud say that she is “very greedy” and her favourite food is “everything”! |
![]() | Daisy is a dark bay, very hairy mare! She is 12 years old and 12.2 h.h. She is on loan to Ditchling Common Stud where she has lived since 1999 and where she is used in the riding school. She lives out all year round and loves eating grass and carrots. She is naughty, cheeky, fun-loving and affectionate – and everyone loves her. |
![]() | Stuben is a palamino Haflinger. He is 13.2 h.h. and built like a hippo! He is 8 years old and has been owned by Jane Walsh since June 2005. He lives out all year round and enjoys hacking and Pony Club activities. He is just beginning to do dressage and show jumping and is reputedly broken to harness although Jane has yet to test that out. He will eat absolutely anything he can get his chops on including anything lying around and all pockets and bags that might contain food! He is fairly laid back, cheeky, and very pushy. He is vain and likes to admire himself in mirrors! Jane says he has an eye for the ladies! |
![]() | Jonjo is a grey New Forest gelding. He has been owned by Jane Walsh since he was a foal, 17 years ago. He is 13.3 h.h. In the summer he lives in during the day and out at night but in the winter he lives out during the day and in at night. He enjoys Pony Club activities, especially gymkhana games, and competes in small local jumping shows. He also loves hacking out and is very calm in traffic. He is also broken to harness. Jane says he is sometimes affectionate towards people but grumpy and bossy towards other ponies! She hasn’t found anything yet that he won’t eat! |
![]() | Maverick, or Ricky for short is owned by the Moon family and is mainly ridden by Belinda’s young daughters, Florence and Constance. He is a 13.3 h.h., flea bitten grey New Forest gelding (although his passport says he was born a strawberry roan!) The Moons have owned him for 3 years. Whilst he is 20 years old he is VERY active – in addition to his RDA work he hacks out and takes part in Pony Club activities, dressage, show jumping, cross country and hunting. He does everything quietly and safely and is a real confidence-giver. He is a fussy eater and his favourite food is plain old coarse mix. He lives out completely in the winter but comes in at nights in the summer. He is a calm pony but can be a bit nervous to handle and hates having his ears brushed!! Belinda says he is “one in a million”. |
![]() | Magpie is owned by the Moon family and is mainly ridden by Belinda’s young daughters, Florence and Constance. She is a piebald mare and is 13.2 h.h. She is an Irish pony, bought from gypsies in Salisbury as a 4 year old. The Moons have owned her for 6 years. Whilst she is 18 years old she is still VERY active. As well as her RDA work and hacking out, she enjoys Pony Club activities, dressage, show jumping and cross-country. Constance competes with her in the Pony Club mini show-jumping team and in the under 10’s mounted games team. She lives out all year round, but comes in at night during the summer. She is laid-back, calm and affectionate and ‘talks’ to you a lot. She can sometimes be a bit moody and ‘mareish’. Her favourite food is “everything” – she is very greedy!! |
![]() | Crystal is owned by the Burton family and is mainly ridden by Susanna’s young daughters, Sophie and Rose. She is a 13.3 h.h. grey Connemara mare. She is 12 years old and the Burtons have owned her for 3 years. When not doing RDA work she enjoys hacking, Pony Club activities, show jumping, cross country and hunting. She is a laid back, affectionate pony whose favourite foods are carrots and apples. She particularly enjoyed the RDA Fun Day. |
![]() | Harry is an 18 year old Eriskay Pony, he is grey and approximately 14 hands high. He belongs to Cheryl Martyr and lives at Bevernbridge Stables in Chailey. Cheryl says that Harry loves people and especially children. Although he is not very keen on hard work he is broken to harness and does enjoy pulling his excercise cart. Harry lives out in a wood some of the time but likes to come in for his tea and has been known to stamp his foot if it doesn't include carrots and apples. |
